An Upcoming Mini Break!
Gimme a break, gimme a break, gimme a little break after finishing book 2 (sung in my head to the Kit Kat commercial.)
The end is nigh for book 2. Despite me hitting the 125k mark, and seeing the finish line for this one, I’ve still two more chapters to go as of writing this.
But it’ll come up quickly. I’m hoping I’ll be done with them in 2 weeks. After that? I get more serious about my stand-alone novel, Under a God-Made Mountain, and then jump into book 3 of the Scarred World Saga.
Before that though, I’m going to take a small break prior to jumping back into it.
Like a quick nap to recoup some energy prior to what you know is going to be a long night, this won’t be a multi-month break like I did earlier in the year.
I don’t feel as burnt out as I did then. This is mostly so I can maintain momentum and get these goals moving before burnout does set in.
As I’ve mentioned before, as I’ve been doing this for close to 20 years now (that’s weird to write out), I’ve learned a couple of things about the process. And one of those things is how important it is to actively rest to rejuvenate the creative spirit and keep the discipline high.
I’m thinking a week or two ought to do it.
What I’m planning on doing during that time?
Get outside with the fam, first and foremost. The timing of this break should align nicely with the start of my two boys’ summer breaks. They’ll have camp for a little bit during the day, and then afterward it’s time for some hiking, basketball, and whatever other shenanigans we can get into.
Then there’s Starfield.
Yes, Bethesda’s maligned space adventure is next on my backlog of games. Despite its mixed reviews, Skyrim is still one of my favorite games of all time and I’ll gladly give even a “mediocre” Bethesda game a go.
I’m a little weary to start this knowing how big of a world it is and how much time it might suck from me, but I’ve been holding onto it since December, and I can’t hold onto it any longer. I’m just hopeful the break will give me enough to muster up some discipline to only play it occasionally.
Art quest won’t stop either. When not writing, I’m hoping to spend more time working on creative composition and visual storytelling, which is the current module I’m focused on right now.
Lastly, I’m hoping to squeeze in some Warhammer 40k painting. I’ve been holding onto a starter set with the boys for a long time, and have the primary painting done, yet need to get to the details. It’s something we’ve been putting off for months now, and this seems like a good time to do it.
That may seem like a pretty full break, but it’ll all be good stuff to take my mind away from writing for a bit and get the creative juices flowing again.
In the meantime, I’ll keep coming with the writing updates. And when I finally hit the end of book 2, you’ll hear it here.

Thanks for stopping by, Fellow Creatures!
Until next time,
Stay surreal,
